Coolsculpting Everything you need to know

We are so excited about today’s post. There have been a lot of questions on our CoolSculpting experience and while our treatments aren’t done yet, we wanted to  give everyone a quick update and answer some questions!

We both recently had CoolSculpting done at Modern Dermatology in Connecticut with board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Deanne Robinson and had an amazing experience. Not to mention how beautiful the office is [literally looks like it is out of a magazine] the staff were all extremely helpful. They made us feel comfortable and wanted to make sure we achieved the results we were looking for.

We first went in thinking we wanted Emsculpt, but Dr. Robinson listened to what we were trying to achieve and recommended CoolSculpting was actually the best option. What results were we looking for? I [Kelly] have a little bit of fat on my belly that I wanted to get rid of and Alex wanted to get rid of some fat on her thighs. CoolSculpting permanently reduces stubborn pockets of fat that diet and exercise can’t handle. Disclaimer: if you are looking for significant fat loss, and actual weight loss (number on the scale) then it’s best to consult a board-certified dermatologist, as liposuction is likely a be better route for you.

So far we have had two treatment sessions and are so excited to finally share our results!

Kelly’s results on her stomach:

From left to right the first photo shows my stomach before Coolsculpting, middle is 5 months after my first session and the last one is 6 months after by second session

Alex’s results on her Thighs:

From left to right the first photo shows my thighs before Coolsculpting and the last one is 6 months after by second session

So what is CoolSculpting?

It is an FDA-cleared, non-surgical fat reduction treatment that uses controlled cooling to eliminate stubborn areas of fat. Treated cells are frozen and then die and overtime our body naturally processes the fat and eliminates these dead cells (you pee them out!) Each treatment takes about 1 hour, and how many treatments you will need depends on your body and goals. Most patients need 2 sessions, but some see results after just 1. I [Kelly] targeted two spots on my stomach so it took a half hour on each and Alex did both thighs, which each took a half hour each.

Before the treatment begins Dr. Robinson draws on your skin to map out the target where the applicator will be applied. The treatment felt like an ice pack being massaged on your stomach and after a little while I was numb and no longer felt anything. It was very tolerable, and you can play on your phone or watch Netflix’s while the treatment is happening. After treatment my stomach was a little tingly for a week, which is completely normal. There is no downtime and I continued right back up with my normal lifestyle that same day.

Q&A

Your questions answered below:

1Q: How much does CoolSculpting cost?

1A: It really depends on where you are getting it and how many treatments you need. You can find a local doctor on the CoolSculpting website to find out pricing as each state really varies. Based on what I learned in talking with Dr. Robinson, I’d highly recommend you seek out this treatment from an experienced board-certified dermatologist vs. a medi spa for example. While, it’s very safe as with anything there are things that can go wrong (see question 4 below).

2Q: Will I lose weight with these treatments?

2A: Each treatment reduces the fat by about 20%-25%. The results are permanent because once the fat cells die they are gone, but if you gain a lot of weight you can gain new fat cells in that area. It doesn’t make you lose weight – the number on the scale won’t change.

3Q: Where can you get CoolSculpting done?

3A: There are 9 FDA approved areas including the abdomen, flanks, chin, arms, inner and outer thighs, back, bra and banana roll. Results are seen 2-3 months after the procedure.

4Q: What are the side effects?

4A: Following the treatment the treated area can be red, slightly swollen and numb/tingly feeling. These symptoms usually resolve within hours, but the tingly sensation can last up to two weeks. There is generally not any pain. Alex didn’t really have any side effects, while Kelly was numb and tingly for a few days.
