A Weekend Away In Maine

Just a short drive from New York City and Connecticut, Maine is the perfect family getaway to recharge and explore. We stayed at the Cambria Hotel Portland Downtown Old Port, an ideal spot that blended comfort and convenience, making it easy to enjoy all the local attractions while being nestled in the heart of the city.

From CT it took us 4 hours [with 3 stops for baby as he doesn’t love car rides] but it was a very easy and straightforward drive. When we arrived there was a convenient parking garage right underneath that we parked in. Check in was very quick and our room was spacious and beautifully updated! We were especially lucky with our room, which had a stunning view of the water, allowing us to enjoy the beauty of Portland’s waterfront. This hotel is only a few years old so its nice to know that all the amenities are new and taken care of!

The other things we absolutely loved was of course the gym. Having a gym in a hotel is always important to us as we like to workout when we can. They also offered free headphones in the gym for those who forgot theirs. Another feature that was amazing for us is they offer chocolate chip cookies and iced coffee free throughout the whole day.

THE FOOD WAS AMAZING! You never know what you are going to get with hotel food and this one is a hidden gem. We really didn’t expect much but ALTO does not disappoint. For dinner we both got Caesar salads and then my husband got the CIOPPINO while I had the steak. And of course we had dessert and we licked the bowl clean it was amazing. We also had breakfast here every morning which was equally as good.

We had such a great time here. It was the perfect first vacation as a family of 3. It was kid friendly which was so important and they even offered a pack and play for our room for Cameron. Not to mention how close it is to everything. Right next door to the hotel is shipyard brewing which Mike and I love and had been to a few times before Cam was born. Maine has some of the best breweries so this one is nice as you barely have to leave the hotel to get it it. It was also a less than 15 minute walk to get to all the shops and other restaurants in the area so we didn’t even need to use our car. We just took Cam in the stroller and walked all of downtown.

The hotel provided the perfect home base for exploring all that Portland has to offer. Whether you’re looking for a quick getaway from NYC or Connecticut, or simply want to experience the charm of this coastal city, Cambria Hotel is a fantastic choice. We can’t wait for our next visit!
