Guiding Eyes

Who doesn’t love puppies? For those of you who are unaware of what Guiding Eyes for the Blind is- it is an international nonprofit program that helps those who have lost their vision and even helps kids with Autism. It is a great program that we love.

We volunteer with Guiding eyes in a few ways. One way we volunteer is through their early training and home socialization program.  This is where you get to take home 6-9 week old puppies for 3-5 days. The goal of this program is to get them used to different noises, sounds and objects, listen to different people, and enjoy some time outside of their usual environment. This is a great program for puppy lovers, especially if you aren’t fully ready for a new puppy. You get to choose based off a schedule that is sent out and can choose what weekends work best for you to look after these cuties!

Another way our friend volunteers is actually being a puppy raiser for a year and a half. Through a program at her job at Pepsi she is able to raise her dog and training him to one day help someone who is in need. So far her dog Yolo is about a year into the program but we love helping her in any way possible. The hardest part is going to be when he leaves since we love him so much but we know he is going to help someone and be the best guide dog he can be.
