As many of you know I adopted a puppy back in early November! At the time, I was single, lonely and wanting some sort of family. So in my head, a puppy was the solution and I am so happy I went through with it! Roo has brought so much joy in my life and the responsibility has grounded me in great ways.

It may seem like I jumped on getting a puppy, but I really didn’t. Puppies which turn into dogs, is a huge responsibility. I knew this was something I had to think about and I did for a year.

There was a lot going on in my life at that time. I lived in an apartment, I worked in the city, I was pretty active during the week and weekends & I was in a relationship that I was not happy in. So to most it didn’t seem like a good time for me to get a little fur-friend because there was a lot for me to figure out. In full disclosure,  being lonely at 26/27 makes you want more. I wanted a commitment, I wanted responsibility and I wanted to go home to some type of family. So I told myself in a year if I still felt all this I would find my dog.

I used the year to do my due diligence too.  I researched the breed I wanted, which was an Australian Shepard and through my research I learned a lot about the breed.

  • they are highly intelligent
  • they need to be challenged to stay occupied and not destructive
  • they will try to please their owner so should be easily trained
  • they are very energetic
  • they DO shed
  • they will try to heard you or small children, so you will need to take time to train that behavior

Most traits didn’t seem to be problematic but being in an apartment with rugs and commuting to the city 4 days a week (at the time) I knew I needed to plan ahead. I googled dog walkers in the area and priced it, I researched doggy-daycare in the city and looked at those prices as well, I looked into puzzles for dogs and so much more. This may have seemed crazy but I would of rathered spend the money on the dog being full engaged during the day rather than coming home to all my furniture destroyed or having the dog be stuck in cage all day! My advice is to make sure you look into all the outlets you may have in order to get a dog for your life style.

Now, let’s fast forward to me finding AussieDoodles! This seemed like the perfect match for me! Part Aussie, part Poodle, the best of both worlds because it’s majority the same list as above but the SHEDDING isn’t as bad and will be more likely hypoallergenic! So I continued my research to find a place that raised healthy ethical puppies. I am so happy I did too because I found Amos & Oak Doodles!

This darling family from North Central Arkansas raise the cutest dogs that are smart and live the best life before going to their forever home! Not only are the dogs acclimated to small kids but also lots of loving people. They are slowly grassed potty trained as well as wee-wee pad trained. The dogs are taken to the vet with full precaution. Lastly, they offer a great payment plan! One last thing I want to mention too is they are super attentive and will video call and chat with you during the process of picking your puppy, getting it to you and watching him or her in their first few weeks.

I’d highly recommend them to anyone and here is their Instagram for more cute photos! I even keep thinking of getting Roo a sibling because she is so great and would love to have another one with her …eventually!

7 months later… I no longer feel the slumps of a void of something & I met someone amazing that helped me pick out Roo and loves her. She knows about 7 tricks too:

  • sit
  • down
  • paw & other paw
  • roll over
  • spin
  • up
  • bang bang

Make sure to go to her Instagram, @aussiedooroo, and click on her treats highlights to see. She sleeps in my bed and, knock on wood, hasn’t had an accident in there yet. She’s still being potty trained but if she does go inside it’s on a wee-wee pad and she loves to run and play.
