DIY TIE-DYE

With quarantine and life changes, we have more time for DIY projects and todays is all about tie-dye! Read more today!

Recently I was laid-off due to COVID-19 and with that I decided to start doing some DIY TIE-DYE. The next thing I know I’ve made over 16 already and can’t wait to make more. With each one I learned the do’s and don’ts and some new techniques. It has actually become a relaxing hobby for me. So with that said I wanted to share some easy tips that could help you as well.

  1. First and very important, lay down a protect layer and wear the gloves. The kit I listed below or here, typically come with these items. It’s important to avoid staining on the floor and your hands. The staining on my hands last over a week no matter how much soap and scrubbing I do.
  2. 2. I personally like to sprinkle a little color below I do anything. So you can add something prior to the next step.
  3. 3. Next lay you canvas flat and figure out with pattern or method you want to go with. I personally like the scrunch method or swirl one for a classic tie-dye look.
  4. 4. Start tying it up with the rubber bands. Do not be scared to use more!
  5. 5. Pick the colors you’d like to use. This is when you get to express yourself. I’ve use 1 color for a monochromatic look all the way to 4 colors. So it’s truly up to you.
  6. 6. Once you have your colors start tie-dying. Make sure to get in the ripples too! you can also section it off with the rubber bands. So another good reason way more may be good!
  7. 7. DON’T FORGET YOUR GLOVES & to get all sides of your item.
  8. 8. Once you’ve finished time to let it sit and soak. I Typically put it in a plastic bag and hung it. I also let it sit for 24 hours.
  9. 9. Next wash it. you don’t want it bleeding on you + it doesn’t smell that great with the dye. So I’ve rinsed it under water and threw it in the laundry after or just threw it straight in the laundry. I think throwing it straight is fine. you can even add some darks with it but DO NOT ADD WHITES. One of my towels now has some tie-dye on it as well!
  10. 10. Lastly enjoy it and add any flare you’d like.
