With new apartments, come new decorations- including rugs. Picking the right rug is very important and to us it can either make or break your space. When looking for your rug make sure to take your time- there is no need to rush into it.
The main purpose of your rug is not only function [it helps to make the room feel grounded] but also comfort. Our rugs really give us the feeling of home and finishes off our space. It is also great if you hate your carpet underneath. Alex’s apartment requires her to have a certain amount of carpet throughout for noise restrictions. So when she didn’t 100% love her bedroom carpet, she just layered one on top.
Here are some helpful tips when choosing your carpet
- Make sure your rug is large enough for your space. If the rug is too small it will completely throw off the flow of the room. You never want the rug floating in the middle of the room.
-
You don’t want the rug to completely cover to floor. Alway leave some space
-
Consider your style. What is your current flooring? What is your current furniture? What colors are already in the room? Do you like neutral or bold colors? Alex and I both have pretty neutral color pallets so we were able to work with more. Alex continued with her neutral color pallet but added a touch of texture while I added small pops of blue and green to my space to match a picture we had on the wall already.
-
Consider your lifestyle. If the rug is in the main entrance/kitchen you know there is going to be a lot of foot traffic. So you might want to stray away from light colors that might get dirty
Kelly’s Rug
Now for our rugs. I [Kelly] went with an 8×11 rug for my living room space in my apartment. It is the Amber Point Smoke Rug which can be found here.
Alex’s Rug
While Alex got the Cottage Floral in Natural from the Boucle Collection, which can be found here.
These rugs are really affordable and we are so happy with how they pulled together our small spaces.
